MLK Day of Service Food Truck for Volunteers
A day on
Feed the people doing the work.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the federal holiday designated as a national day of service. Volunteer projects need a hot lunch, and a halal truck can feed every volunteer from one window.

When to book
Aim to ask by Monday, December 7, 2026
January is quieter for outdoor events, but the holiday weekend itself is popular for service projects. Four to six weeks ahead is plenty.
A suggestion based on roughly 6 weeks of notice, not a deadline. Nothing is booked until you confirm.
MLK Day of Service
A food truck for MLK Day.
MLK Day falls on Monday, January 18, 2027. Across DC, Maryland and Virginia, schools, congregations, companies and nonprofits spend it as “a day on, not a day off”, cleaning parks, sorting donations and packing meals.
Federal offices are closed, so agencies and contractors usually hold their observances during the week before, with a speaker program and a lunch. For volunteer days, the truck parks where the work is and serves when the crews break, so nobody has to leave the site to eat.
Planning tips
- Mid-January is the coldest stretch of the year, so plan a sheltered spot for the line.
- Volunteer projects run on a tight clock; give us the break time and we open on it.
- Organizers often host the tab so volunteers eat free. Tell us how you want to handle it.

Agency or contractor observance

Thin-sliced steak, grilled onions and peppers, melted cheese.

Hot, crisp golden fries.

Can you feed volunteers at an MLK Day of Service project?
Yes. Tell us where the work happens, the break time and a rough number of volunteers. The organizer or a sponsor can host the tab.
When is MLK Day 2027?
Monday, January 18, 2027. It is always the third Monday in January.
Can a federal office book you for the week before?
Yes. Many agency observances happen on a workday. Food on a federal campus usually needs the facility’s approval, which your event lead arranges; we send the vehicle and business details they ask for.
How much does it cost to book the truck?
Every event is quoted individually. Price depends on the date, location, guest count, service time, menu and whether the host covers the food or guests pay for their own. Request your date and we will send a quote.
Is the food halal?
Yes. Bella Bites serves a 100% halal menu, cooked to order on the truck.
Where do you bring the truck?
Washington DC, Northern Virginia and Maryland, including Washington, DC, Arlington, VA, Alexandria, VA, Fairfax County, VA, Loudoun County, VA, Prince William County, VA, Montgomery County, MD, Prince George's County, MD. Not sure if you are in range? Call 571-992-6050 or send the address with your request.
